Dear Aspirants,

The CSAT is an Aptitude Test modified to test the competency of a prospective IAS officer who ensures social justice and takes decisions under the shadow of ethics. All Aptitude Tests are modified Intelligence Tests (IQ Tests). Under the axiom that human intelligence is a function of two skills – Ability to express thoughts better and understand what others have to convey, and Cognitive Ability, all aptitude tests check for Verbal and Numerical Ability, with a smattering of Reasoning questions.

Apart from this CSAT, being a test of recruitment to Civil Services, will test whether a candidate can handle the kind of Decision Making under the shadow of Ethics that an ideal IAS is capable of. Moreover, as English is the connecting and official language of our country, so an IAS officer should have an excellent understanding of English language.  The seventh topic of the syllabus for the CSAT Paper 2, English Language Comprehension, addresses this particular need.

To understand our perspective of English Language Comprehension better, check sample concept builder and questions  at http://www.rauias.com/csat.php

I coudn’t join the june batch but want to join Nov. classroom batch, but I have a free time period from july onwards ,so kindly suggest me the ways to utilize this time.

    • RAU'S IAS -  June 9, 2012 - 9:14 am

      Dear Anurag,

The basic guideline at the start of the preparations for both Preliminary and Main Examination is to read N.C.E.R.T. books on related subjects. There is no substitute for them. One should refrain in the beginning from reading guidebooks, as they load you with information, but with very little concept.

      NCERT Books: Social Studies
      • Civics: 6th – 10th standard
      • Political Science: 11th and 12th standard
      • Geography: 6th – 12th standard
      • Sociology: 11th and 12th standard
      • History: 6th – 12th standard
      • Economics: 9th – 12th standard (latest edition)

      NCERT Books: General Science
      • Physics, Chemistry, Biology: 9th and 10th Standards

Alongside, you must devote time reading 1 newspaper (The Hindu/TOI) and 1 journal regularly (Frontline/Pratiyogita Darpan) regularly and analytically. Make a habit of reading newspapers and magazines regularly and analytically. The events of National and International which effect human lives at large are important from General Studies point of view).

    thanking you sir,

    yours sincierly

    • RAU'S IAS -  August 1, 2012 - 1:14 pm

      Dear Thirupathi,

      1) First, I suggest that you download and go through the “IAS Exam Syllabus” document to understand the format, pattern, nature and syllabus of Civil Services Examination. That will make you more aware of issues related to this examination and strategy that you should follow to clear this exam.

      2) Our next session for 2013 examination will start from 23rd November 2012 – http://www.rauias.com/november.php

      Fee structure:
      # GS batch (classes will be held for 2-4 hours/6 days a week)– which covers Prelim (Paper I – General Studies & Paper II -CSAT) and Main Exam (General Studies & Essay) – Rs 55,000
      # 1 Optional subject (classes will be held for 2hours/6 days a week)– Rs 35,000

      My suggestion:
In November session: study for/enroll in only GS batch + 1 optional subject batch (do not enroll for the 2nd optional subject as well because that will burden you with much more to do than should be done). As part of these two batches you will complete Pre (Paper I and II) and Mains (GS, Essay and 1st Optional). Thereafter, you may appear in Civil Services (P) Exam to be held in May 2013 and after that join our June 2013 session to cover your 2nd optional subject.

Should you have more queries please feel free to contact our counselors.
